The book presents a clear explanation of the inextricable linkages among water, energy, and environment issues â€" the water/energy/environment nexus. Early chapters discuss the current water, energy, and environment contexts in detail, including an overview of global water issues, the importance of energy efficiency, traditional energy and emerging renewable energy technologies, global warming and climate change and other water- and energy-related environmental issues (e.g., water and air contamination, oil spills, radioactive waste storage, environmental impacts associated with solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass energy), the importance of recognizing and dealing with the nexus as well as policy implications and recommendations for moving forward. Insight is given into the policy process associated with the nexus, policy history, policy options, and steps people and institutions can take to address issues such as climate change, access to clean water, and energy poverty.

This volume of the World of Science Education gathers contributions from Latin American science education researchers covering a variety of topics that will be of interest to educators and researchers all around the world. The volume provides an overview of research in Latin America, and most of the chapters report findings from studies seldom available for Anglophone readers. They bring new perspectives, thus, to topics such as science teaching and learning; discourse analysis and argumentation in science education; history, philosophy and sociology of science in science teaching; and science education in non-formal settings. As the Latin American academic communities devoted to science education have been thriving for the last four decades, the volume brings an opportunity for researchers from other regions to get acquainted with the developments of their educational research. This will bring contributions to scholarly production in science education as well as to teacher education and teaching proposals to be implemented in the classroom.

Schooling matters. The authors' professional pursuits for over twenty-five years have been focused on measuring one key aspect of schooling: the curriculum - what students are expected to study and what they spend their time studying. This documents their conviction that schools and schooling play a vital and defining role in what students know and are able to do with respect to mathematics and science. This research examines seventeen international studies of mathematics and science to provide a nuanced comparative education study. Whilst including multiple measures of students' family and home backgrounds, these studies measure the substance of the curriculum students study which has been shown to have a strong relationship with student performance. Such studies have demonstrated the interrelatedness of student background and curriculum. Student background influences their opportunities to learn and their achievements, yet their schooling can have even greater significance.

Climate change is the biggest threat humanity faces. So big, in fact, that it is sometimes hard to know what each of us, as individuals, can do to counter it. Climate Solutions details the challenges, lays out the solutions and shows you which ones you can make part of your life. Written by experts at the EU climate bank, each chapter helps you figure out what you can do in areas that range from how you get around to what you eat, from protecting our oceans and rivers to ensuring that your digital devices do not damage the environment.
